meet our modelmakers

At Unusual Projects we have been fortunate enough to have been commissioned to make some amazing models, so we thought it was time to introduce the team who interpret our client’s requirements and create fantastic models and props which are as visitor friendly as they are stunning.

Simon Parfitt

I am the Lead Creative Producer at Unusual Projects. My knowledge and experience has been accumulated over my 30 plus years of leading projects across three continents. Memorable past projects include The Museum of Coastal Defence in Hong Kong and more recently The Churchill War Rooms, both for the joy of being able to contribute to telling their fascinating pasts.

Stuart Beardow

I’m Stuart, I am a modelmaker at Unusual Projects and have worked in the museum industry since 2012. Prior to this I was an architectural modelmaker. Projects I have enjoyed working on include the Imperial War Museum Holocaust and WWII galleries which gave me the opportunity to learn about the history of some of the replica objects we produced. I also really enjoyed making the model of Southwell Minster for the ‘Leaves of Southwell’, it was challenging from a design perspective as the model was for the visually impaired, so it incorporated tactile elements to aid in the understanding of the building. It was also challenging from a modelmaking perspective as it was made from Maple and needed to be robust to be handled, yet intricate enough to show the beautiful features of the building.

I really enjoy working at Unusual Projects because of the variety of projects we undertake which all have their own challenges to overcome, allowing me to build on my design and practical skills alongside my material knowledge.

Stuart Keith

Hi I’m Stuart. I have worked in the Model making industry for 19 years mainly in the Architectural sector. I have only recently joined the team at UP and I am enjoying it immensely. There is such a varied array of work in the Museum sector, and it is forever changing what I will be doing from one day to the next which keeps my roll here fresh and interesting. I enjoy working with all the team as everyone is friendly and helpful and will go out of their way to assist you if you need help. I’m looking forward to working on the upcoming projects we have some great ones coming up.

Hattie Braithwaite

I’m Hattie the junior project assistant. I have been working at Unusual projects for a year and a half, learning the ropes from my fellow model makers. Within this year I have been lucky enough to work on many amazing projects, my favourite so far would have to be Churchill War rooms. It was brilliant to be able to learn so much about the history of Churchill while we worked.
