PLEDGE WALL

CLIENT: RHS WISLEY

SCOPE: DESIGN DEVELOPMENT, BUILD & INSTALLTION OF EXTERIOR INTERPRETATION

Following the opening of the Greener Skills Garden in October 2025, the RHS required a bespoke, "visitor-ready" interactive exhibit. The goal was to create a Pledge Wall: a highly visible installation where visitors of all backgrounds could commit to sustainable gardening habits. The unit needed to be robust enough for a busy outdoor environment while reflecting the garden's core mission of environmental science and accessibility.

We collaborated closely with the RHS project team to translate their conceptual vision into a functional, durable physical asset.

We engineered the wall to provide a tactile, physical interaction, allowing all visitors to physically "make a pledge." In line with the garden’s inclusive mission, the interface was designed to be reachable and operable for users with diverse accessibility requirements.

Given the garden’s focus on "Greener Skills," we prioritized materials that balanced longevity with sustainable credentials.

  • As an outdoor installation at a premier visitor attraction, the Pledge Wall was engineered to withstand the elements without degradation of the interactive mechanisms or educational graphics.

  • The aesthetic was carefully managed to ensure the wall felt at home within both a professional scientific setting and a domestic-scale garden.

  • Like much of our work, this unit was built for "unsupervised" interaction, utilizing heavy-duty internal fixings and tamper-resistant finishes to ensure a long service life at RHS Wisley.

The Pledge Wall serves as the final "call to action" for the Greener Skills Garden. It transforms passive learning into active participation, providing RHS Wisley with a durable, low-maintenance tool that empowers thousands of visitors to take sustainable practices back to their own communities.
